Ishaan Khatter is headed to Cannes 2025, but he’s not walking that red carpet just for the flashbulbs. The actor will be representing Homebound, the official selection in the Un Certain Regard category, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. For Ishaan, this is more than just a professional milestone—it’s a deeply personal dream come true.
“I didn’t want to go to Cannes just as an attendee,” Ishaan told Mid-Day. “Cinema is the soul of a festival like this. I wanted to be part of it with a film that means something.” Homebound, which Ishaan describes as “his most emotionally demanding role yet,” is already being hailed as a significant step forward in his career.
This isn’t Ishaan’s first brush with Cannes-adjacent recognition—he was lauded for his performances in Beyond the Clouds and A Suitable Boy—but Homebound is his official entrée into global cinema. “It’s the kind of role that tests your emotional core. It’s raw, real, and rooted in stories we don’t always tell,” he shared.
The film, which premieres on May 21, also stars Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa and is produced by a powerhouse team including Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Martin Scorsese as executive producer. The message is clear: Ishaan Khatter isn’t just showing up—he’s showing up with intent and impact.
