Zayn Marie Shows Injury Marks After Mumbai Detention
Zayn Marie, Aamir Khan's niece, shared a reel showing injury marks after a brief detention with Imran Khan and Lekha Washington.

Zayn Marie, actor and niece of Aamir Khan, has shared injury marks on her arms, fingers and legs after she was briefly detained by Mumbai Police at August Kranti Maidan. The video appeared on her Instagram on Sunday, a day after she, Imran Khan and Lekha Washington were held at the site of a planned protest and released after a few hours.
In the reel, she faces the camera and shows the marks directly. Her message is short and pointed: “Do not scare us so much that no fear is left in the first place.” The caption adds: “she exposes (the state) on the internet.”
On Saturday, Zayn had shared a photo from inside a police van, seated beside Imran and Lekha, with the caption “INQUILAAB ZINDABAAD.” Imran smiled and held up a peace sign. Lekha posted videos saying the three were safe and trying to make their way home after being stopped on the road.
Why the actors were at the maidan
The detentions took place during police action at August Kranti Maidan, the proposed venue for a protest backing the Citizens for Justice and Peace call. Mumbai Police said more than 400 people were detained and that no permission had been requested for the gathering. Officers also said permission could not be granted because Bombay High Court directions allow protests only at Azad Maidan.
CJP workers gave a different account, saying they had emailed Mumbai Police seeking permission but had not received a response.
The protest behind the police action
The CJP has been demanding that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign over alleged irregularities in the SIR of electoral rolls. The group held a demonstration in Mumbai on October 2 and has continued to raise the issue through public statements.
The controversy around Kumar’s role intensified after an investigative report by The Indian Express. It said Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections at least 14 times over 10 months to decisions and procedures linked to the SIR exercise.
For Bollywood fans, a more personal angle
Imran Khan has kept a quiet public profile for years, so his appearance inside a police van is unexpected for many fans. Lekha Washington and Zayn Marie are familiar faces from independent and model-actor circles. Their brief detention turns a policy dispute into a story people can see through familiar names.
- The three actors were released after a few hours on Saturday.
- Zayn shared injury marks on her arms, fingers and legs the next day.
- Mumbai Police put the number of people detained at the maidan at more than 400.
- The CJP dispute centres on the Election Commission’s SIR process.
For now, the actors’ posts focus on their release and on the marks Zayn chose to make public.
