Mani Ratnam co-wrote, co-produced, and helmed Raavan, a 2010 Indian action-adventure romance film. The film features Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Vikram (in his Hindi debut), with Govinda, Nikhil Dwivedi, Ravi Kishan, and Priyamani in significant supporting parts. The movie maintains the essence of the epic Ramayana, but has its unique changed narrative not to be mistaken as the original Ramayana, Story is nothing near to the original. In the movie, a police officer is on the chase to find a tribal leader and lawbreaker, who has kidnapped his wife.
Beera Munda, the kidnapper, was motivated by his sister’s murder as a result of police interrogation and violent rape. The film follows the officer’s hunt while also examining the evolving feelings that the three characters have with one another, culminating in a thrilling finale set in the forest. Stockholm syndrome is the theme of this film.
Raavan was revealed in February 2008, and Abhishek and Aishwarya’s cooperation was confirmed for the second time following Guru (2007), sparking even more excitement. Soon after, filming began in a number of locations across India, including Chalakudy, Kerala, and Ooty, Tamil Nadu, among others. The movie’s soundtrack was created by A. R. Rahman, while the lyrics were penned by Gulzar. V. Manikandan and Santhosh Sivan supervised cinematography, and A. Sreekar Prasad edited the movie.
In Tamil, the movie was renamed Raavanan, with Vikram repeating his part as the antagonist and Aishwarya Rai reprising her role. The villain was also the Telugu title for the movie. On June 18, 2010, all three versions were released worldwide at the same time. On June 16, 2010, the film premiered in London.
