While the actors appeared to be fighting for the 1st position – with Akshay Kumar eventually defeating Salman Khan, and in spectacular fashion! – Deepika Padukone successfully kept her number one place again for sixth year consecutively, with really no competition. Priyanka Chopra came in second receiving 14% of the voting, trailed by Katrina Kaif into third place by 13% and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in fourth place with 10%. Anushka Sharma, who made the charts the year before, fell four positions to No. 5 in the year and, receiving 9% of the vote.
As previously said, Deepika’s retention of the top place is unsurprising. She began the year off with a bang, um, a Chhapaak! Deepika Padukone’s Meghna Gulzar-directed film, based on the storey of acid-attack victim Laxmi Agarwal, was a critical and economic success, catapulting her into a position where she began to be admired for her film choices.
We think it’s a remarkable achievement for a woman in Bollywood, which is dominated by heroes. This is in addition to the fact that the public saw Deepika take on a challenging assignment like portraying an acid-attack sufferer and nail it on television.
Deepika Padukone, on the other hand, succeeded in making it seem stylish. Perhaps this is yet another factor for her receiving the most votes. There’s Dippy’s lovely social-media interplay with husband Ranveer Singh, which never fails to make us swoon!
Deepika would next be seen from the Ranveer Singh-starrer 83, which is inspired by India’s historic World Cup victory in 1983. Romi Dev will be played by Dippy, and Kapil Dev, an Indian team’s captain, would be played by Ranveer Singh. The movie is expected to hit the theatres soon alongside Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, and therefore will presumably provide us with something we’ve been missing out on for a year: the thrill of that first show in cinemas! Deepika is indeed the Queen of Bollywood.
