In a surprising turn in the spectacular rape case involving Bollywood star Shiney Ahuja, his maid has recanted her claims that he raped her at his home here last year, claiming the event never happened.
On September 3, the 20-year-old girl appeared in court, claiming that she was never raped by Shiney and that she had submitted the charge against him at the request of the lady who had arranged for her to work as a maid at Ahuja’s home.
The girl filed a police report in June of last year, stating that she was raped by the actor at his home. Shiney was detained on June 14 and freed three months later after posting bail. “On September 3, the victim recognised Shiney in court and stated that she used to work as a domestic assistant at his home.
“However, when questioned about the event, she claimed it never happened and that she had never been raped,” said public prosecutor Kashinath Dighe.
The court deemed her hostile as a result of this. He said she might face perjury charges if the court sees proper.
Other evidence will be presented by the prosecution, comprising testimonies from 12 other witnesses, forensic reports, as well as other documented evidence.
The next hearing date has been set for September 15. Bollywood Shiney was charged with rape and illegally detaining the woman inside a 109-page chargesheet. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.
In her police report, the victim stated that she and the 37-year-old star were alone in the residence when Shiney allegedly raped her on June 14, last year. Shiney had allegedly kept the maid to his bedroom for hours before allowing her to leave, according to the maid.
Shiney Ahuja’s maid was taken to the Oshiwara police station at 4.30 a.m. following undergoing medical examinations there at Nagpada Police Hospital. Surprisingly, she was not accompanied by any female constables. The actor was charged with rape (376), criminal intimidation (506) as well as unlawful imprisonment underneath the Indian Penal Code (342).
According to authorities, the 18-year-old maid had already been working alongside Ahuja again for past one-and-a-half months. “At approximately 7 p.m., she went to the Oshiwara police station and informed them Ahuja had raped her,” said Amitabh Gupta, assistant commissioner of police.
The complainant stated to the police that she may have come to Ahuja’s flat for domestic labour. The actor’s wife was nowhere to be found. Inside the FIR, the victim is claimed to have said, “He brought me into his bedroom, gagged me, and raped me.” On Sunday, between 3 and 5 p.m., the event occurred.
