RRR gets chosen over Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi for the BAFTA 2023 longlist

According to reports, Alia Bhatt’s film Gangubai Kathiawadi is no longer eligible for the BAFTA 2023 longlist. RRR, the SS Rajamouli film, has now joined the race, though.

The longlist for the 24 categories of the BAFTA 2023 (British Academy Film Awards) has finally been released. RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli and one of the biggest international hits of 2022, has been included in the BAFTA 2023 longlist under the heading “Film not in the English language.” On January 6, Friday, the RRR developers posted a social media update announcing the really exciting upgrade. Bhansali had already gotten a nomination for the beloved Devdas, starring Shah Rukh Khan, at the BAFTA awards in 2003. To the great surprise of moviegoers, the hit film, which starred Alia Bhatt in the lead role, was not included on the BAFTA 2023 longlist.

On the other hand, the Ram Charan-Jr NTR starrer has unquestionably made quite an impression on international platforms and has received nominations at major significant film awards of 2023. “The BAFTA longlist for the “film not in the English language” category includes a mention of RRR. It is located next to “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Argentina, 1985,” “Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths,” “Close,” “Corsage,” “Decision To Leave,” “EO,” “Holy Spider,” and “The Quiet Girl, ” among others “SS Rajamouli’s film has been added to the longlist, according to the official press release posted on the BAFTA website.

The imaginary meeting of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komuram Bheem, two of Telugu states’ most renowned liberation fighters, centers on the magnum opus directed by SS Rajamouli. Ram Charan plays Alluri Sitarama Raju in the project, which was written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, while Jr. NTR plays Komuram Bheem. Bollywood icon Ajay Devgn had a cameo appearance, and Alia Bhatt played Alluri Sitarama Raju’s lady love Sita in the film. A follow-up to RRR is expected very shortly. The biographical drama is based on a real-life lady named Gangubai Kothewali, a sex prostitute who subsequently rose to become a mafia queen. It was the first time Alia Bhatt and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali worked together on camera.
