Dil Raju Apologises for Ranbir-Ranveer Mix-Up

With Ramayana: Rise of a Legend just over two weeks from its Diwali release, the promotional machinery is in full swing. But a Hyderabad event meant to reveal distribution plans is now making headlines for a lighter reason: producer-distributor Dil Raju accidentally swapped the film’s leading man with another star.

What happened at the Hyderabad event

Dil Raju was on stage to announce that his banner, Sri Venkateswara Creations, will release the epic in the Telugu-speaking states. He shared the distribution map: Karan Johar is handling North India, Sony Pictures is taking Hollywood, and Sri Venkateswara Creations has the Telugu market. Raju has previously distributed two Ranbir Kapoor theatrical releases, Brahmastra and Animal, so the moment was supposed to be a victory lap.

Then came the slip. “We seen all his films, one of the best actors, the best hero is Ranveer Singh garu, sorry, Ranbir Kapoor Garu,” Raju said, quickly correcting himself. The camera cut to Ranbir Kapoor, who kept a straight face and gave little away, a reaction that became half the story.

Raju’s comments were intended to build anticipation for the Telugu release. Instead, the correction became the moment audiences clipped and shared.

Why the moment caught fire

The clip spread quickly, with fans calling it awkward and funny in the same breath. One comment on the video read, “This is embarrassing,” while another wrote, “What an awkward moment.” A third suggested that organisers should avoid handing the mic to anyone who has not rehearsed, especially without a teleprompter.

For an event of this scale, the gaffe is a reminder of how small name slips can overshadow the headline. Ramayana is among the most anticipated releases of 2026, and the spotlight on its cast is intense.

The film behind the news

  • Release: Worldwide theatrical opening on November 5, during Diwali.
  • Music: AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
  • Production: Prime Focus Studios, Monster Mind Creations and DNEG, produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash.
  • Sequel: The second part is planned for Diwali 2027.

The takeaway for big-ticket events

High-pressure launch stages reward preparation. A quick script check and a rehearsed name list can keep the focus on the film, not the slip. Dil Raju corrected himself immediately and apologised, which kept the moment mostly light.

As the Diwali date nears, the team will want attention back on the spectacle. The mix-up is unlikely to hurt the film’s prospects, but it will probably remain a meme for a few more news cycles.
