Nana Patekar Dies at 75 After Cardiac Arrest
Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at 75 after a cardiac arrest in Goa on October 8, 2026. Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Riteish Deshmukh and others paid tribute.

Veteran actor Nana Patekar died early on October 8, 2026, after a cardiac arrest at his home in Dona Paula, Goa. He was 75.
By afternoon, social media timelines were filled with tributes from co-stars and directors who remembered an actor who could hold the screen without raising his voice.
What happened in Goa
Patekar was found unconscious at his residence and rushed to Manipal Hospital. Doctors attempted to revive him for around 45 minutes, but he was declared dead at approximately 5:20 am. The cause of death was cited as cardiac arrest.
His family has planned a cremation with full state honours at the ancestral farmhouse in Donje, Pune. The final rites are expected at around 4 pm today, with the body kept at the property so that family, close friends, film colleagues and local villagers can pay their respects.
The tributes from Bollywood
Akshay Kumar wrote on X that he was “really saddened” by the news, calling Patekar one of those rare actors who “never needed to do too much to make you sit up and watch”. The two shared screen space in Welcome and Housefull 5.
Riteish Deshmukh said he was “shocked beyond words” and praised an actor who could move from a larger-than-life hero to a terrifying villain to poker-faced comedy. Anupam Kher shared an emotional video from his theatre work, remembering a friend who was direct and unpretentious.
Other tributes came from Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty, Sunny Deol, Ram Gopal Varma, Boman Irani, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon and Anees Bazmee. Boman Irani’s note stood out for its warmth: Patekar, he said, would always push him to keep walking on his morning walk.
A career that defied categories
Patekar’s filmography refused to stay in one lane. He could be raw and frightening in Parinda, Krantiveer and Ab Tak Chhappan, then completely silly in Welcome or Taxi No 9211. He was last seen on the big screen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2026 romantic action thriller O’ Romeo, with recent appearances in Sankalp and a cameo in Subedaar.
That range is why so many tributes describe him as irreplaceable. It also points to a quality young actors and creators can learn from: an economy of performance, where doing less can make a scene land harder.
- Parinda and Krantiveer: the intense National Award-winning turns that built his reputation.
- Ab Tak Chhappan: the brooding encounter specialist Ram Gopal Varma said he could never forget.
- Welcome and Taxi No 9211: the poker-faced comic timing that made him a multiplex-era favourite.
- O’ Romeo: his final big-screen release in 2026.
For fans, the best response is simple
If you know Patekar mostly through clips and memes, use the day to watch two completely different performances back to back. Ab Tak Chhappan and Welcome are a good place to start; Parinda and Krantiveer show the earlier, rawer work.
He leaves behind a filmography that will be rediscovered for years. The tributes say he was one of one, and the films are the proof.
