Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much awaited opus Gangubai Kathiawadi has received a last-minute addition. The film is dedicated to Lata Mangeshkar, who is greatly missed. In the film’s opening credits, a frame with the tribute has been inserted to Lata Mangeshkar.
“It’s my modest humble tribute to a skill that knows no bounds,” Bhansali explains. The change was made to the film’s credit titles ahead of its trip to the Berlin Film Festival, where it would be accompanied by Sanjay Bhansali and his starring woman. The Gangubai Kathiawadi song ‘Dholida’ is now trending on the internet.
The piece owes its allegiance to the Nightingale, according to Bhansali, who created it. “I think of Lataji whenever I write a song.” I instruct my singers to imitate her voice. For as long as I make movies, she will be my inspiration and guiding light.”
