Coronavirus continues to cause deaths and the numbers are not decreasing.  As per reported figures, around 4,000 individuals die every day from COVID-19 related illness. Bodies have been seen floating in the river Ganga in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. There have also been news reports of bodies being buried in the sand along the river’s banks. Of late, dreadful photos of eagles and birds hovering over these dead bodies floating in the Ganga river have gone viral on social media. It was later told that these photographs were discovered to be from the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh and were taken in 2015.

However, this being said there are numerous news reports suggesting 100s of dead bodies found floating in Ganga. Even local and state government has confirmed this and are looking at if these are indeed of COVID-19 positve patients and also who is behind this.

Kangana Ranaut being herself posted a video to her Instagram account in which she stated that some people in our country defame the country by sharing such images. In the video, she can be seen saying, ‘The pictures where the corpses are floating in the Ganges are becoming viral, it is learned that they are from Nigeria. Now Kangana is being trolled on social media for her latest comments on Nigerian bodies.

Surya Pratap Singh, a retired IAS officer, has also reacted to Kangana’s remarks. He tweeted, “Ganga me tairti lashein Nigeria ki hai – Kangana Ranaut. Unnav, Baliya, Kanpur jaise cities Nigerian hai Iska Mujhe bilkul andazaa nahi tha”. (’The corpses floating in the Ganges belong to Nigeria – Kangana Ranaut. I had no idea that cities like Unnao, Ballia, Kanpur are in Nigeria.) Surya Pratap Singh’s tweet, on the other hand, has gotten a lot of attention.  A Twitter user writes, ‘Ganges flows in 28 districts of UP. Ask her, do you know their names?
