India will have a two-day mourning period in honour of Lata Mangeshkar

Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary Indian singer famed for her beautiful voice, died on February 6th at the age of 92. She was on a ventilator and died on Sunday morning from multi-organ failure. On Sunday, her remains will be transported to Shivaji Park in Mumbai to pay tribute to India’s greatest vocalist. On January 8, 2022, she was taken to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where the iconic singer was being treated after testing positive for COVID-19.

According to reports, a two-day national mourning period would be celebrated in honour of iconic vocalist Lata Mangeshkar.

As a gesture of respect, the national flag will be flown at half-mast for two days. The late Bharat Ratna winner will be given a state funeral.

Lata Ji sang in nearly a thousand Bollywood movies began singing more than thirty-six Indian and international languages. In 1989, she received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2001. Lata Mangeshkar has won three National Film Awards, as well as multiple Filmfare Awards. She was the first Indian to play in the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1974.
