FIR against Kangana for copyright infringement

Ashish Kaul, the author of a book titled “Didda, the Warrior Queen of Kashmir” has recently lodged a complaint against  Kangana Ranaut  for copyright breach.  Ashish Kaul is the author of a book title “Didda, the Warrior Queen of Kashmir”.  As per the FIR filed in the police station on March 12, 2020, against Kangana Ranaut, her sister Rangoli Chandel, brother Akshat Ranaut,  the actress allegedly announced a film on “Didda, the warrior queen”. 

Ashish Kaul has claimed that the actress announced the film without his prior consent.  The author claims that he has the exclusive copyright to the story of Didda, Ashish Kaul has reportedly contacted Kangana and sent her some extracts of the book.  He has emailed the gist of the book to Kangana to give her a peek into the story of the Warrior Queen. 

Recently, Kangana Ranaut had announced her forthcoming movie Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda  Ashish Kaul was reportedly stunned with the announcement by Kangana that she intends making a movie on the life of the Warrior Queen “Didda”. The author was not given any such indication by the actress Kangana Ranaut.

In response to the author’s e-mail, the acress has written that the movie is not based on Ashish Kaul’s book. Whereas as per Kaul the description of Didda as identified by Kangana Ranaut to promote her film is similar to what is set out in his book.  Therefore, Ashish Kaul went ahead and complained in a city court. Didda, the warrior queen of Kashmir is supposedly Kaul’s ancestor. The court ruled in the favour of Ashish Kaul and based on the court’s order the FIR has been filed by the author of “Didda, the Warrior Queen” The Mumbai police has filed the FIR against Kangana for violation of copyright.
