Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s forthcoming directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi is one of the much-awaited films of this year. The film, starring Alia Bhatt, features the actress as Gangubai, one of the most powerful, loved, and respected female don from Kamathipura during the 1960s. The film is scheduled to release around the end July 2021. The trailer of the movie is out and received a tremendous response from the audience.
However, as per the grapevine Deepika Padukone, who worked with Bhansali in Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat is not happy with the director. All these movies have been artistically intense. Deepika is allegedly upset with the filmmaker for not offering the lead role of Gangubai Kathiawadi to her. Bhansali is supposed to have offered Deepika a dance number in the film but the actress rejected the same. Bhansali refuted the same stating “Do you think it makes sense to offer a dance number to an actress if she has been rejected for the lead?
As per other sources, Deepika was never offered Gangubai Kathiawadi. She was already playing a female gangster in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Sapna Didi. This movie was based on the work of the same author who wrote Gangubai Kathiawadi. Deepika was cast opposite Irfaan Khan in Sapna Didi, unfortunately, the project got shelved due to various reasons.
The assumptions regarding the rift between Deepika and Sanjay Leela Bhansali seems to be baseless. Deepika and Ranveer both continue to remain intimate to Bhansali. In fact all through the period when Sanjay was suffering from COVID-19 they regularly stayed connected with the Director. Hence the so-called rift between the Director-actor duo seems to be due to over prolific imagination of gossip mongers.
In light of recent speculations, people were wondering whether the two will work together in the near future. The response is “Provided these fake stories of strained relations do not take a toll on their affinity.” The audience is looking forward to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika’s massive blockbuster movies in near future.
