Danny Denzongpa has been a performer for 50 years, beginning from Mere Apne (1971). Danny had primarily portrayed villainous or character parts throughout Bollywood movies over the course of a long career. Dhund, 36 Ghante, Bandish (1980), Jeeo Aur Jeene Do, Dharm Aur Qanoon, and Agneepath are some of his most memorable flicks. He too has acted together in a number of foreign movies, the most popular movies of which being Seven Years in Tibet, wherein he co-starred with Brad Pitt.

On February 25, 2021, the legendary actor turned 72, and now on September 10th, 2021, he would reach a 50-year mark in his Bollywood career. Danny Denzongpa discussed how he struggled to obtain acting roles at the time of his introduction or beginning due to his distinctive appearance. He intended to be a singer, however, he wound up taking an acting class instead.

The veteran actor revealed to Outlook India in an interview that, “I wanted to study music at the film institute, and I thought I would become a singer, but then I realised at the institute that there was music, but it was part of the acting course… and I was like an alien as I looked different. Filmmakers would make movies on subjects in which I didn’t fit in.”

Danny further added that “Somehow I got a chance to act in Gulzar Saab’s ‘Mere Apne’ which is among the many films in which I have been cast as a generic Indian without a back story, rather than an exotic creature from somewhere in the subcontinent.”

The renowned actor further stated that despite having paid his debts in the profession, he did not obtain the parts he desired. He said, “Many offers that came to me were conventional roles, which I had played before. Most new directors have that image of me from the movies, which I did in the ’80s and ’90s. That was too monotonous and I wanted to do something different.”
