J. P. Dutta helmed, produced, as well as wrote the 1997 Indian Bollywood epic war movie Border. This is an adaption of true events that took place during the Battle of Longewala in 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War. This was also the highest-grossing Hindi language movie of 1997 in India, and it was the second-highest-grossing movie of the year globally, trailing only Dil To Pagal Hai. Border made a total of US$655.7 million (US$9.2 million) globally. Several prizes were given to the movie at various award ceremonies.
There at 43rd Filmfare Awards, it garnered 11 nominations, comprising Best Film, Best Actor for Sunny Deol, Best Supporting Actor for Suniel Shetty as well as Akshaye Khanna, and Best Supporting Actress for Raakhee, and won four of them, notably Best Male Debut for Akshaye Khanna. Also, it received three National Film Awards, including Best Film on National Integration, Best Lyricist for Javed Akhtar, and Best Male Playback Singer.
