Bridgerton’s second spin-off charts young Violet’s romance
Netflix and Julia Quinn confirm a second Bridgerton spin-off: a limited series about young Violet's romance with Edmund, years before she becomes matriarch.

Bridgerton is reaching back to the romance that started the family. On October 8, Julia Quinn and Netflix confirmed that an untitled prequel limited series will follow a young Violet Bridgerton and her courtship with Edmund, the man she eventually marries. It becomes the second Bridgerton spin-off, after Queen Charlotte.
Quinn shared the news through a note written as Lady Whistledown, the franchise’s anonymous gossip columnist. “The love match that started it all shall soon be yours to see, dear reader,” the message read.
What the prequel will explore
The series will travel to Violet’s early life, before she became the matriarch of the Bridgerton family. Here is what has been confirmed so far:
- The story: young Violet’s romance with Edmund Bridgerton, the Viscount she eventually marries.
- The scale: a limited series and the second Bridgerton spin-off after Queen Charlotte.
- The creative team: Shonda Rhimes produces; Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini write and act as showrunners; Tom Verica directs and executive produces alongside Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
There is no title, release window or casting attached yet, so this is an early creative green light rather than a dated launch. The announcement deliberately borrows the in-world voice of Lady Whistledown, turning a development update into a society-paper event for fans.
Why Violet’s story matters now
Across the main series, Violet has mostly been the family’s matchmaker, steering her children through their own romances while her own past stayed a subplot. A prequel changes that balance: the matriarch becomes the protagonist, and the love story fans have heard about only in fragments finally gets room to play out.
The Queen Charlotte model is the clearest reference point. That spin-off also started from a supporting character’s backstory and was run as a focused limited series. The new project reunites several of the people behind Queen Charlotte, including Rhimes and Verica, which suggests Netflix is betting on the same shape rather than experimenting with a new structure.
Where the main series stands
Casting for young Violet and Edmund is still to be announced. In the existing universe, Ruth Gemmell plays Violet in the main series, while Connie Jenkins-Greig has appeared as a younger Violet in Queen Charlotte.
Bridgerton itself is moving forward too. Season 5 will focus on Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling, played by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza, and the main series has been renewed through Season 6.
The next milestones for fans to watch are the prequel’s official title and the casting of young Violet and Edmund. Until then, the announcement confirms the direction: Bridgerton is building out its past as deliberately as it maps its future.
