Many K-pop fans were ecstatic to learn that Taeyang of BigBang is expecting a child with his wife, Min Hyo-rin, last month.
He’s the latest in a long line of K-pop singers who have either had or are expecting a child, signalling the beginning of a new chapter in their life as they begin their own families.
BigBang’s lead vocalist Taeyang, also known as Dong Young-bae, recently announced that he and his wife Min Hyo-rin are expecting a child. They met on the shoot of his 1am music video and have been married since 2018. On social media, several VIPs (members of Bigbang’s official fan club) applauded the pair.
Twitter user @kwnjyongg said: “A little ray of sunshine is on its way. VIPs rise!!!!!! Congratulations to Taeyang and Hyorin!!! Youngbae with his dad jokes is really going to be a dad soon.”
Fans were taken aback in August when K-pop artist Bobby of iKon revealed that he was getting married as well as expecting a kid inside a handwritten statement on Instagram. It sparked debate among followers, since many were unaware that he was inside a relationship.
Notwithstanding this, when Bobby’s fiancée gave birth to a baby boy in September, many people were overjoyed. Bobby’s babysitting his nephew Raon was also widely disseminated upon that internet, demonstrating that he was capable of being a decent father.
Bobby wasn’t the only celebrity whose pregnancy announcement sparked outrage. Exo’s Chen got flak from fans when he announced in January 2020 that he was getting married with a kid on the way, with some even calling for him to leave the group.
Many others, on the other hand, continued to show their support for the singer, even hosting streaming parties to drown out the negative reactions to the news. In April, the couple had their first child, a daughter. Exo fans celebrated by making the hashtag #WelcomeExoPrincess spread globally on social media.
Areum of T-ara was already engaged when she learned that she and her fiancé, businessman Kim Yong-geol, were expecting a child. As a consequence, the couple decided to hold their wedding in October 2019 rather than February 2020, as initially planned.
