With less than four months till the end of the year, just a few of the greatest Hindi films of the year have seen the light of day. While some of the big-name films wait for that time, there has been a flood of films released on streaming services such as Netflix, ZEE5, Amazon Prime Video, and others that stood out for their tales as much as their storytelling. Talking about the Top Bollywood Movies of 2021 so far, here we put together a list of the top 5 Bollywood movies, that are loved for their engaging writing, excellent performances – and for being ahead of the curve – that were adored by us, fans, and critics.
Top 5 Bollywood Movies of 2021 (So Far) are-
1. Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi – Netflix
This family drama launched to excellent acclaim at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2019, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Vinay Pathak, Konkona Sen Sharma, Vikrant Massey, and Supriya Pathak, among others. It took a while to get to an audience appearance, but it was well worth the wait. Ramprasad’s complete family is brought together for 13 days after his death. During this period, they delve into the family dynamics: their clashes, divergent viewpoints, reasons, goals, and inter-family conflicts. It has a salty and sweet flavour.
2. Mimi – Netflix
Helmed by Laxman Utekar, starring Kriti Sanon, Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Supriya Pathak, Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles. The life of a woman is scarcely her own. Her ability to control her body is frequently influenced by the environment in which she lives. The agency a woman has over her body is determined by society, socialisation, economics, and politics.
Mimi, a gorgeous 25-year-old dancer, has the freedom to choose to become a surrogate mother in order to support her Bollywood ambitions. Her control over her own body, on the other hand, vanishes the minute the American couple that hired her abandons their intentions. Mimi is then forced to decide what will happen to her and the kid she is carrying.
3. Kaagaz – ZEE5
Pankaj Tripathi’s Kaagaz is a remarkable timepiece. Satish Kaushik wrote and directed the biographical picture, which is one of the finest Hindi films of 2021. The film is based on the actual tale of Lal Bihari, who spent two decades of his life attempting to regain his presence in official records after being wrongly pronounced dead. If you haven’t seen it yet, this intriguing storey needs to be on everyone’s watch list, not least because of the incomparable Tripathi’s performance as the leading guy.
4. Ajeeb Daastaans – Netflix
Ajeeb Daastaans is a collection of four tales that explore complicated mathematics and connections. The anthology stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Jaideep Ahlawat, Armaan Ralhan, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Abhishek Banerjee, Inayat Verma, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shefali Shah, Manav Kaul, and Tota Roy Chowdhury and is directed by Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan. The stories depict many aspects of our current society and bravely touch on difficult feelings in broken relationships. Each short is a triumph of storyline and acting, but the Konkona Sen Sharma-Aditi Rao Hydari-led Geeli Pucchi, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, is the highlight.
5. The White Tiger – Netflix
The White Tiger stars Rajkummar Rao, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Adarsh Gourav and is set in modern-day India. It is one of Netflix’s most talked-about releases. The film depicts the rise of Balram Halwai, a lowly driver from a wealthy family who utilises his intellect and guile to become a successful businessman. However, the route he picks is bleak and dangerous. The White Tiger, based on the Man Booker Prize-winning novel by Indo-Australian novelist Aravind Adiga, cuts through the nonsense and exposes the truth. It’s no surprise that it’s received a slew of major accolades throughout the world.
