My Dear Kuttichathan
My Dear Kuttichathan, the first Indian 3D film, which was launched 27 years ago and was then dubbed in Hindi as ‘Chhota Chetan’. It is a 1984 Malayalam fantasy film directed by Jijo Punnoose and produced by his father Navodaya Appachan under the Navodaya Studio banner.
It was the first Indian film to be shot in three dimensions. The narrative focuses on a magical indigenous Indian goblin named “Kuttichathan” who is under the power of an evil sorcerer but is freed by three youngsters and subsequently befriends them, with a script by Raghunath Paleri. Ilaiyaraaja wrote the film’s music, while Ashok Kumar and T. R. Shekhar handled cinematography and editing, respectively. Jagadish and Zainuddin made their acting debuts in this film.
The film was highly appreciated and made over 2.5 crores at the box office. Originally shot in Malayalam, a re-edited version was re-released in 1997, making it the first DTS film in Malayalam. In 1997, it was remade in Hindi as Chhota Chetan, which was likewise a box office hit, collecting 1.30 crores.
In 2011, according to a report by India Today, The film will have a remake and it will star actor Prakash Raj and Bollywood beauty Urmila Matondkar in its updated form. While the film’s original plot thread has been retained, some new scenes and 25 minutes have been added as a unique visual treat for spectators, according to producer Navodaya Appachan during a press conference.
The film will be dubbed in Hindi and other important Indian languages. Prakash Raj and Urmila Matondkar have taken the role of two characters in the digital edition.
