Reema Kagti went on to direct Gold: The Dream That United Our Nation, a 2018 Indian Hindi-language historical sports drama film produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. It features Akshay Kumar as Tapan Das, the player who won India’s first gold medal in the 1948 Summer Olympics and therefore is based on the voyage of India’s first national hockey team to the 1948 Summer Olympics. Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, and Nikita Dutta play supporting parts in Mouni Roy’s Bollywood debut.
On August 15, 2018, India’s Independence Day, the film Gold was released in theatres. It garnered mostly excellent reviews, with critics praising the film’s narrative as well as excellent cast performances in particular. The movie was critically as well as financially successful, grossing 158 crores there at the box office. Gold was also the first Bollywood movie to be released inside the Saudi Arabian market. On December 13, 2019, this was also released in Chinese theatres.
Akshay Kumar, the movie’s principal star, made the formal announcement in October 2016. Sandeep Singh, an Arjuna Award recipient and former captain of the Indian national hockey team, has been hired to help the actors improve their hockey abilities.
The majority of the filming took place in Yorkshire and the Midlands in England. Reema Kagti, the director, stated, “It’s a fictitious account of what occurred. Also, we will be looking at more than just the golden victory in 1948; we will be looking at 12 pivotal years in India’s history.”
On July 1, 2017, principal filming for the movie began in Bradford, England. The movie was shot in Yorkshire, specifically in Bradford, Doncaster, as well as Rotherham. Following the completion of the England cycle, Gold’s production crew relocated to Punjab in September 2017 for its second schedule, which had been shot in Amritsar and Patiala.
Parts of the film too were shot in Dhariwal, Punjab’s New Egerton Woolen Mills. The explanation was the long-established mill’s British infrastructure, that mirrored the post-independence era. In December 2017, the movie’s last schedule was finished in Mumbai. The shooting of Gold was concluded on December 10, 2017, according to Akshay Kumar.
Sachin-Jigar composed the movie’s soundtrack as well as the background score. Arko Pravo Mukherjee as well as Tanishk Bagchi created more tunes. Javed Akhtar, Vayu, Arko Pravo Mukherjee, and Chandrajeet Gannguli wrote the lyrics.
