The months ahead are shaping up to be an exciting phase for Gurfateh Pirzada, with a diverse slate of projects spanning period drama, anthology storytelling, romance, comedy and political drama. With four projects lined up for release from September onwards, followed by another ambitious title in the pipeline, the actor is set to explore some strikingly different worlds and characters.
After spending the last two years working across multiple projects, often simultaneously, Gurfateh is finally set to see that body of work reach audiences. Here’s a look at the projects that make his upcoming line-up particularly interesting:
- The Revolutionaries
Leading the line-up is The Revolutionaries, Prime Video’s period drama set in the aftermath of the 1857 Indian Rebellion and rooted in the freedom struggle against the British Raj. The series follows young idealists fighting for justice, liberty and freedom, placing Gurfateh in a historically rooted dramatic setting that is markedly different from his contemporary roles.
Speaking about the project, Gurfateh said, “The first of these projects is The Revolutionaries, set in the 1910s and rooted in the freedom struggle against the British Raj.”
- Lust Stories 3
Gurfateh then features in Lust Stories 3, the third instalment of Netflix’s acclaimed anthology. He stars in Kiran Rao’s segment alongside newcomer Sana Thampi, with the anthology also bringing together Vikramaditya Motwane, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj.
For Gurfateh, working with Rao was an experience he particularly valued. “Then came Lust Stories 3, directed by Kiran Rao. That was an absolute roller coaster, one of those rare opportunities that an actor doesn’t get very often today. I’m incredibly glad I got the opportunity, the space, and the freedom to do something like that, and more importantly, to work with Kiran.”
- Adhure Hum Adhure Tum
The actor will also be seen alongside Imran Khan and Bhumi Pednekar in Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, directed by Danish Aslam. The modern romantic comedy marks Imran Khan’s return to acting after a ten-year hiatus and is set against the backdrop of cricket.
Gurfateh describes the film as “a lovely modern romantic comedy set against the backdrop of cricket”, adding that he is leading the film alongside Khan and Pednekar.
- Call Me Bae Season 2
December will bring Gurfateh back to a character audiences already know. He reprises his role as Neel Nair in Call Me Bae Season 2, as Bae navigates growing professional ambitions alongside an increasingly complicated personal life.
For the actor, the show is especially meaningful. “And then there’s Call Me Bae Season 2. That one feels like home. The show gave me a second life of sorts at the movies, especially after having seen multiple projects get shelved, and I’m incredibly grateful to be back with it.”
- Dynasty
Beyond the four projects expected to arrive over the coming months, Gurfateh also has Dynasty, a political drama that is currently in post-production and is expected to release next year.
The actor’s packed schedule has come at the cost of plenty of sleep, with several projects being shot simultaneously. Recalling the intensity of the past two years, he said, “I’ve spent the better part of the last two years working non-stop, sometimes doing double, even triple shifts in a day. Looking back, it’s been exhausting, chaotic, and honestly, one of the most rewarding periods of my career.”
He further recalled, “At one point, all three were being shot simultaneously. So there were days of constantly shuttling between sets, from Madh Island to DY Patil to Worli Village, running almost entirely on zero sleep and adrenaline.”
With The Revolutionaries, Lust Stories 3, Adhure Hum Adhure Tum and Call Me Bae Season 2 arriving from September onwards, and Dynasty waiting in the wings, Gurfateh Pirzada’s upcoming slate is as varied as it is ambitious. He is also set to begin shooting for his next project in September, making this a particularly busy and potentially defining phase in his career.
