Following the enormous success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony has decided to extend its Marvel world. Dakota Johnson is in discussions to play Madame Web in the studio’s next film.
Madame Web is described in the comics as an old woman with myasthenia gravis who is hooked to a life support system that looks like a spider web, according to Deadline. Madame Web never actively fought any villains due to her age and sick condition. As a result, it’s been suggested that the project may morph into something different.
She is effectively Sony’s Doctor Strange, thanks to her psychic sensory abilities.
Sony officials have met with such a number of A-listers in order to choose who will play the title role. The list has indeed been whittled down in recent months, with Johnson emerging as the front-runner.
Dakota Johnson had a busy year at work, beginning with her critically lauded performance in Netflix’s The Lost Daughter. After its premiere at Sundance, her movie Cha Cha Real Smooth was purchased by Apple for $15 million. Persuasion will be her next film.
The film will be directed by S.J. Clarkson. The script was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Clarkson is now directing and executive producing “Anatomy of a Scandal,” a film adaptation of the bestselling novel.
