There, he meets and falls in love with Tia (Aishwarya Rai), a teacher. He makes an attempt to pursue her, convinced that Tia has feelings for him as well. Tia, on the other hand, sees him as nothing more than a nice buddy. When he finally admits his feelings, Tia reveals the existence of her fiancé, Raj (Priyanshu Chatterjee). Despite knowing of her engagement, Jai continuously pursues Tia, who soon violently rejects him. Tia marries Raj, they have a newborn son called Anshu and live a humble but happy life together. Jai’s life has been turned upside down.
Jai becomes incredibly intoxicated one night and drives home with Anita, colliding with another car shortly after.
Tia and Raj were in the other automobile, according to a narrative twist. Tia survives but loses her memory, while Anita and Raj are slain on the spot.
Tia’s physicians fear she will be unable to cope with the mental pain caused by the return of her memories, and advise her mother (Rakhee Gulzar) to relocate Tia to a location where she will be free of any recollections of her past. Jai, filled with remorse for causing her illness, offers Tia and her mother his home in South Africa as a place for her to recover. Although Tia’s mother despises Jai for creating the disaster, she accepts for Tia’s sake.
Tia learns that she was in a car accident with Jai and Anita, her best friend and that Jai and Anita’s son, Anshu, was killed. She’s also informed that she’s always taken care of Anshu as an aunt, and she’s urged to continue being a motherly figure to him.
Tia’s mother notices Tia’s emotions for Jai and cautions him not to inspire or return the favour them. Full of self-hatred, Jai maintains his own towards Tia notwithstanding her efforts to engage him. Jai’s father (Paresh Rawal) attempted to build people up but Jai continues to refuse, sometimes because he still appreciates her.
Tia’s mother, understanding that she wants Tia and Anshu to have a complete family life, understands that her daughter is in love with Jai and gives her blessing. Jai’s remorse, on the other hand, makes him reject to be in a relationship with Tia.
Tia questions Jai regarding his cold demeanour towards her, as well as the two, get into an argument. Jai pursues Tia as she runs. Jai is forced to admit that Anshu is Tia’s son, Anita was his friend, and her husband Raj died in the accident when she threatens to commit suicide. The film concludes with a final confrontation between all the characters. Jai’s father and Tia’s mother arrive at the scene.
She expresses her desire to leave and begin a new life alongside her mother as well as Anshu, however, Jai approaches her and begs her to marry him, something she agrees.
