Why Aamir Khan Is in Prahaar’s Special Thanks

Director Avinash Arun reveals why Aamir Khan's name appears in Prahaar's Special Thanks, and teases that a collaboration may be in the works.

Why Aamir Khan Got a Special Thanks in Prahaar

When Prahaar released on October 16, it quickly earned praise for its subject, emotional stretches, performances and Avinash Arun’s direction. But one detail in the closing credits became a talking point of its own: Aamir Khan’s name in the Special Thanks section.

Arun has now explained the connection in an interview with Bollywood Hungama. It is not a courtesy credit — it is a thank-you for a job offer.

A suggestion that started it all

Arun said Aamir was the reason he came on board. The superstar suggested his name to producer Dinesh Vijan, then made a direct pitch to the director himself. Arun recalled Aamir telling him he would do “justice to this subject” and should consider the project. That confidence, he said, motivated him to take Prahaar.

The relationship goes back further. According to Arun, Aamir has followed his work since Killa (2015), and called him again after the success of Paatal Lok. For a director who often works behind the camera, that kind of sustained attention from one of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars is rare.

A resume built on craft

Arun’s credit list makes it clear why his name came up in that conversation. The FTII Pune graduate is both a director and a cinematographer, and he has shot several films audiences know well:

  • Masaan (2015) and Drishyam (2015)
  • Madaari (2016), Hichki (2018) and Karwaan (2018)
  • Directorials including Killa, Three of Us (2023), School of Lies, Paatal Lok and Pritam and Pedro

He often doubles as his own director of photography. On Prahaar, he holds both jobs again; the notable exception is Paatal Lok Season 1, where Saurabh Goswami shared cinematography duties.

Aamir’s endorsement is also notable because it bypassed the usual announcements. There was no casting headline, no joint appearance — just a name in the credits and a director willing to explain it afterward. The gesture read as unusually quiet.

The credit may be a preview

Fans already want to know whether the Special Thanks signals a proper Aamir-Arun collaboration. Arun kept the possibility open, saying the two are “discussing a couple of things” and hope to work together soon.

Until that happens, the credit stands as a reminder of how casting actually works in movies: before actors walk on set, a trusted voice often whispers a name in a producer’s ear. In Prahaar‘s case, that voice belonged to Aamir Khan.

For now, Prahaar is being talked about for its dramatic and emotional highs as much as its direction. The Special Thanks line gives fans an extra reason to rewatch the credits: it connects a rising filmmaker to a superstar who was watching long before the audience knew his name.
