Udta Teer crosses ₹19.45 crore in opening weekend

The spy comedy Udta Teer, led by Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, has turned a decent Friday into a genuinely promising opening weekend. Amid holdover releases like Nayyi Navelli and Prahaar, the film added ₹8.10 crore on Sunday, taking its three-day total to ₹19.45 crore, according to early figures from Sacnilk.

A weekend that grew every single day

Most box office stories are about the first number. Udta Teer’s is about the curve. The film opened at ₹4.10 crore on Friday, jumped to ₹7.25 crore on Saturday, and then pushed further to ₹8.10 crore on Sunday.

That is the opposite of a front-loaded pattern. When a film grows day over day, especially in urban multiplexes, it often means early word of mouth is working.

  • Friday: ₹4.10 crore
  • Saturday: ₹7.25 crore
  • Sunday: ₹8.10 crore
  • Opening weekend total: ₹19.45 crore

What trade watchers are saying

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh called the run “a wonderful surprise” on X, pointing to a “solid 76.83% jump on Saturday”. He noted strong occupancies in major multiplexes across urban centres, and said the trend was expected to continue on Sunday.

That played out on the ground. Cities such as Bengaluru, Kolkata, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai reported solid footfalls, alongside Mumbai, according to Adarsh.

The film behind the numbers

Udta Teer marks the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik, who earlier worked as a writer on Housefull 4, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The plot follows a Pakistani spy, played by Khurrana, who loses his memory after a blast and starts believing he is an Indian Counter-Terrorism Squad officer. That mistaken identity sets off a chain of comic and action-packed events in a cross-border espionage operation.

The supporting cast gives the film a familiar, crowd-friendly texture: Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, the late Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Sandeep Anand. The light spy comedy tone fits Khurrana’s offbeat hero energy and gives Ali Khan room to balance the action and humour.

Why the weekdays matter now

A ₹19.45 crore opening weekend is a solid base, not the finish line. The film now needs to sustain this momentum through the weekdays to post a respectable Week 1 total. If the weekday drops are small, Udta Teer can turn a surprising weekend into a genuine success story.

For Bollywood watchers, that is the key signal to track: not just how a film opens, but who is still talking about it on Monday morning.
