Tusshar Kapoor’s Rs 5 Crore Extortion Call May Be a Hoax

Police suspect a hoax after Tusshar Kapoor received a Rs 5 crore threat from a caller posing as Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Harry Boxer.

Tusshar Kapoor's Rs 5 crore threat may be a hoax

A Rs 5 crore extortion threat to actor Tusshar Kapoor is looking less like a genuine gang warning and more like a hoax. The actor reported the call to Mumbai Police, and an early technical check has raised doubts about the caller’s true identity.

What police found

According to police sources, the caller claimed to be Harry Boxer, an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and demanded Rs 5 crore. Tusshar Kapoor brought the matter to the police, giving investigators an audio clip to examine.

The Crime Branch’s technical team compared the recording of the threatening call with an official voice sample of Harry Boxer. Senior police officials reportedly found a mismatch between the two voices. Investigators now suspect that someone used the gang’s name to issue a hoax threat, and the police are working to trace the caller.

Why the timing has Bollywood on edge

The call came days after the attack on actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area. On October 18, unidentified assailants opened fire at Shroff’s vehicle. The actor was unharmed, but his driver and an autorickshaw driver sustained injuries. Mumbai Police have since arrested several people in connection with that firing; the investigation is ongoing.

A social media post attributed to alleged Lawrence Bishnoi gang operative Anil Pandit claimed responsibility for the Juhu attack. The post alleged that Shroff had been targeted because of his association with Salman Khan and for allegedly ignoring warnings.

A pattern of high-voltage threats

The Bishnoi name has surfaced around Bollywood before. Salman Khan has faced repeated threats allegedly linked to the gang, including a firing outside his Mumbai residence in April 2024. After the Tiger Shroff attack, a message attributed to the gang warned that those working with Salman could also be targeted.

That wider backdrop is why a single extortion call carries so much weight. A fake threat can still trigger panic, dominate headlines and add to the sense that stars are being watched, especially when it arrives so soon after real violence.

Here is what the current situation rests on:

  • The caller claimed to be Harry Boxer and demanded Rs 5 crore from Tusshar Kapoor.
  • Mumbai Police’s preliminary voice analysis found a mismatch with the alleged gang member’s official sample.
  • Investigators suspect a hoax and are tracing the person behind the call.
  • The incident follows the October 18 firing at Tiger Shroff’s vehicle in Juhu.

What the Kapoor case shows

For fans and industry watchers, the episode is a reminder that not every gang-branded threat is what it claims to be. It also shows why reporting a threat quickly matters. The sooner investigators receive a recording, the sooner they can separate a real risk from someone trying to create fear.
