T-Series secures King music rights for 50 years

T-Series has acquired exclusive global music rights for Shah Rukh Khan's King for 50 years, covering songs, videos and publishing, via Zee Music.

T-Series owns King's music for the next 50 years

Music rights for one of Bollywood’s most anticipated films just became a five-decade play. T-Series has acquired the exclusive global commercial music rights to King, the Shah Rukh Khan-led action spectacle directed by Siddharth Anand, for 50 years.

The agreement, announced through details shared by the label, was facilitated by Red Chillies Entertainment through Zee Music Company. It gives T-Series exclusive commercial exploitation rights over the film’s musical assets worldwide, including its songs, music videos and associated publishing interests.

Not a short-term licence

The announcement comes amid industry chatter about a possible shorter licensing arrangement. A T-Series spokesperson made the nature of the deal plain: “There is no transient licensing structure or short-term handover at play.” The label, they said, has locked in an “absolute 50-year commercial monopoly” over the audio and music video rights.

In a market where film music rights are often discussed around release cycles and shorter windows, a five-decade grant stands out. It turns the soundtrack from a promotional asset into a long-term catalogue piece, with publishing and music-video rights housed under one banner.

According to the announcement, every song, video and publishing interest now “rests squarely under the T-Series banner for the long haul.” That language is emphatic, and it positions King as a flagship catalogue title rather than a routine soundtrack pickup.

A soundtrack built to travel

The album pairs songs by Sachin-Jigar with background music by Anirudh Ravichander. It is also expected to feature a collaboration between Ed Sheeran and Arijit Singh, a pairing that has already added to the buzz around King.

Why a 50-year deal matters

Long-term music acquisitions are about more than the theatrical window. They position the label to monetise the soundtrack across streaming, licensing and future formats well beyond the film’s initial release. For listeners, this kind of consolidation usually means the album lives in one catalogue and can be reissued or repackaged as the film finds new audiences over time.

  • Exclusive global rights for 50 years, covering songs, videos and publishing.
  • Music by Sachin-Jigar, with background score by Anirudh Ravichander.
  • A possible Ed Sheeran and Arijit Singh collaboration on the soundtrack.
  • King stars Shah Rukh Khan with Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan.

The film behind the album

King marks the first time Shah Rukh and Suhana will share screen space as a father-daughter duo, a detail that has raised anticipation around the film. With the action spectacle scheduled for a Christmas theatrical release, the T-Series deal gives the label control of the film’s global music exploitation well beyond its run in cinemas.

The immediate next milestone is the soundtrack rollout. If the Ed Sheeran-Arijit track materialises, expect it to be teased early to build global momentum ahead of the Christmas release.
