Suriya Thanks Dhanush as Scene Gets a Solo Diwali Run
At Scene's audio launch, Suriya thanked Dhanush for moving OM: Chapter 1 out of the Diwali frame and asked fans if he should keep 'The One'.

Suriya’s action-comedy Scene is set to open on November 6, 2026, and it now has the Diwali corridor largely to itself. At the film’s audio and trailer launch, Suriya publicly thanked Dhanush for adjusting the release plans of OM: Chapter 1 so the two star vehicles would not compete head-to-head.
The scheduling shift did not happen in one move. Dhanush had earlier postponed OM: Chapter 1 from October 16, 2026, to avoid Jailer 2, and later made another change to stay clear of Scene during the Diwali season. For audiences, that clears one of Indian cinema’s most crowded windows for a single big-ticket title.
Why a solo Diwali slot matters
Diwali releases compete for premium screens, show timings and audience attention across multiple languages. When two event films arrive on the same date, exhibitors must split the best inventory and marketing has to fight for the same conversation. A cleaner window gives Scene more room to open wide, especially with the holiday audience Suriya is courting.
‘The One’ stays after a live fan vote
Suriya also used the stage to settle a small branding question. He asked whether fans wanted him to continue with the moniker ‘The One’, which has followed him since Karthik Subbaraj’s Retro. The crowd responded with enthusiasm, and Suriya confirmed he would keep the title.
He framed Scene as a fresh cinematic experience built on mystery, chaos and comedy, and asked viewers to walk in with an open mind and a cheerful mood. The pitch is a light Diwali entertainer rather than a heavy action drama.
What Scene brings to the holiday
- Inbaraj is a skilled officer with an unruly streak who quits the force to hunt his arch-enemy, Eeswaran, on his own.
- He gathers an unconventional team, including his love interest Maya, for an unusual search full of action and humour.
- The cast includes Suriya, Nazriya Nazim Fahadh and Naslen in prominent roles, with Anandraj, Lal and Raj Priyan in key parts.
OM: Chapter 1, meanwhile, is an action thriller built around an operation involving the illegal trade of red sandalwood. It stars Dhanush and Mammootty, with Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in important roles. Moving it out of the Diwali frame may cost it a holiday launch, but it avoids a direct collision between two of the season’s biggest South Indian leads.
The larger signal
Public gratitude for a release-date adjustment is rare, and it points to a more collaborative release calendar among major productions. For fans, the result is simpler: one fewer impossible choice on November 6, and a clearer reason to book an early ticket for Scene.
