Sunny Deol’s Gabru Set for 2027 Release in New Avatar
Producer Vishal Rana confirms Sunny Deol's Gabru will arrive in 2027, teasing an emotional new avatar as the star swaps his famous hand for heart.

Producer Vishal Rana has given Sunny Deol fans a clearer timeline: Gabru is being readied for a 2027 theatrical release. The confirmation arrives months after Sunny singled the film out during the February 2026 success meet of Border 2, a moment Rana says triggered a wave of calls from the industry.
“We are looking to release it in 2027,” Rana told Bollywood Hungama. “It’s a film which is close to his heart and ours as well.”
What makes Gabru different
The producer’s positioning is emphatic. This is not a standard Sunny Deol action outing, he says, but a unique turn that surprised even the actor’s own family. Rana says the family watched the film together and agreed that Sunny has not done something like this before as a performer.
The most quotable proof is a line Rana credits to Sunny: ‘Iss baar dhai kilo ka haath nahin, dhai kilo ka HEART leke aaya hoon.’ It remixes the actor’s famous “dhai kilo ka haath” image into a promise of emotional weight, a useful signal for an audience that has seen both Sunny’s action highs and his more family-driven hits.
The wider plan, and the wait
Rana says the exact date will be announced soon, with the plan to make the announcement after Sunny’s Soorya releases next month in November. Gabru is described as an ode to real-life heroes, aimed at Sunny’s loyal viewers and anyone chasing big dreams.
- Release window: 2027, with the date announcement coming after Soorya.
- Soorya: Sunny Deol’s immediate release, due in November 2026.
- Also in Rana’s slate: Tu Hai Meri Kiran with Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, and Gulabi with Huma Qureshi.
Why the timing matters
The wait for Gabru is deliberate. Rana points to a crowded release calendar where, as a producer, finding a date that gives a film room to breathe has become difficult. He is applying the same patience to Gulabi, the Huma Qureshi-led story of a female rickshaw driver, which he says is ready and also expected next year.
The Border 2 connection also matters. After that film’s success, interest in Sunny’s next moves is high, and Gabru has been the title he keeps returning to. That is why the date announcement is being treated as a moment in itself, held until Soorya has had its run.
For fans, Soorya offers the next immediate check-in with Sunny Deol. Gabru, though, is the bigger test of a star reworking his own image, bringing the heart, as the pitch goes, rather than the hand alone.
