In another major courtroom blow for defamed YouTube channel Sojang (Taldeok Camp), the Seoul Central District Court has ordered the operator to pay 50 million KRW in damages to IVE’s Jang Wonyoung and her agency, Starship Entertainment, for spreading false and defamatory content.
The court highlighted the volume and malice of the videos, Sojang’s influence on public sentiment, and the reputational damage caused. Each video reportedly garnered between 100K to 1M views, magnifying the harm. Although Starship had sought 100M KRW, the court settled at 50M, plus interest.
This isn’t Sojang’s first legal defeat. Earlier, the same operator was fined 30M KRW for defaming Kang Daniel and a combined 76M KRW for spreading falsehoods about BTS’ V and Jungkook. Jang Wonyoung also won an additional 50M KRW in a personal suit. With mounting losses and a now-defunct channel, Sojang’s reign as a notorious “cyber wrecker” appears to be ending in courtrooms.
