Ram Charan on Peddi’s One-Rupee Auction Scene

Ahead of Peddi's October 24 World Television Premiere on Sony MAX, Ram Charan reveals why the one-rupee cricket auction scene stayed with him.

Ram Charan on Peddi's One-Rupee Auction Scene

Ram Charan is giving fans a reason to stay in on October 24. His sports-action drama Peddi makes its World Television Premiere on Sony MAX at 8 PM, and ahead of the broadcast the actor is revisiting the scenes that have stayed with him longest.

Speaking exclusively to Filmfare, the star did not pick a high-octane action beat or a song-and-dance moment. Instead, he pointed to a cricket auction sequence where the hero is valued at almost nothing—and that is exactly why it lands.

The scene that cost one rupee

In the sequence, Ram Charan’s character is auctioned off to play for just one rupee. The drama comes from how he earns recognition out of that low moment. “One of the most interesting scenes for me was the cricket auction scene, where the hero is auctioned off for just one rupee to play,” he told Filmfare.

The power of the scene, Ram Charan explained, is not the auction itself but what follows. “The way the drama unfolds around him and how he gets recognition was very interesting to me.” A price tag of one rupee makes the character’s eventual recognition feel earned because it starts from a position of almost zero worth.

He also highlighted the film’s wrestling sequences and an emotional turning point after his character loses everything and pleads with his guru to train him.

Challenging, but not difficult

Ram Charan said the auction scene looked bigger than it was to shoot. The cast was already deep inside the world of the film, and the director had planned the sequence thoroughly. The result: the entire scene was wrapped in a single day, inside eight hours.

“It was challenging but not difficult,” he said, adding that it remains one of the scenes closest to his heart.

Why the TV premiere matters

For viewers who missed Peddi on the big screen, the Sony MAX premiere is a low-friction way to catch the film at home. It is also an introduction to the film’s 1990s Andhra Pradesh setting and its underdog story: a talented sportsman wins his village’s admiration, then has to fight for something far bigger than personal success.

Television premieres like this one often bring a film back into family living rooms and give actors a second wave of attention. For Peddi, that second look suits the film’s sporting underdog theme, which is built for a prime-time audience that likes a clear emotional journey.

Here is what to remember before you tune in:

  • Premiere date: October 24 at 8 PM on Sony MAX.
  • Stars: Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor.
  • Setting: a remote Andhra Pradesh village in 1990.
  • Core story: a sportsman becomes his community’s hero, then fights for that community.

Ram Charan’s memory of the one-rupee auction is a good lens for viewing the film: the moments that matter are not always the loudest ones. Set a reminder for 8 PM; the mix of cricket, wrestling and a guru-student turning point gives viewers several entry points, not just one.
