Jailer 2 tops Rs 600 cr as Rajinikanth makes rare IMAX fan visit
Rajinikanth joined fans at a Jailer 2 IMAX screening and the success party as the Nelson sequel reportedly crossed Rs 600 crore worldwide.

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has reportedly crossed Rs 600 crore worldwide, and the Superstar marked the milestone with fans instead of a polished press event. The Nelson directorial has been in theatres since October 15, and the team gathered over the weekend for a cake-cutting success celebration, with Rajinikanth also stepping into an IMAX auditorium to watch the film alongside the public.
A rare fan moment at the IMAX
Sun Pictures, the production house behind Jailer 2, shared a video of Rajinikanth arriving at the theatre. In the footage, he walks from his car toward the IMAX auditorium, where director Nelson is waiting to welcome him. The two shake hands before the rest of the entourage follows inside.
The appearance has drawn extra attention because it is reported to be Rajinikanth’s first such public theatre appearance in 40 years. It also felt deliberately low-key: reports note that he entered without the heavy security usually associated with a star of his stature.
Jailer 2 is also the first Rajinikanth film to receive a wide IMAX release, which makes the screening doubly significant. Large-format screens have become a stronger draw for action-heavy productions, and a sequel built on dark comedy and set pieces gains from that scale.
The success party brings the team together
The Saturday celebration gathered returning cast members Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Vinayakan, Yogi Babu, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal and Jaffer Sadiq, alongside newer additions Namo Narayana, Suraj Venjaramoodu, SJ Suryah, Kottayam Nazeer, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Hakkim Shah, Hrithik Roshan and Apeksha Porwal.
A few details from the film’s final cut were just as interesting as the party list:
- Vijay Sethupathi appears in a brief cameo near the end, which has already sparked talk of a third instalment.
- Portions featuring Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Hakkim Shah and Vijay Sethupathi were reportedly trimmed from the theatrical version.
- Santhanam, linked to the original film’s cast, did not appear in the sequel’s final cut but still joined the celebration.
What the cameo suggests
The brief Vijay Sethupathi appearance has left the door open for a Jailer 3. While nothing is confirmed, the way fans are reading the cameo shows how much franchise speculation now travels with a Rajinikanth release. For now, the team is focused on the current run, which has momentum after the IMAX release and the strong worldwide figure.
That mix of on-screen and off-screen faces made the event feel like a genuine franchise gathering rather than a narrow cast photo-op. With the reported worldwide number now past Rs 600 crore, the makers have plenty to toast, while Rajinikanth’s rare IMAX visit gives fans a personal memory that the box office figure alone cannot capture.
