Radhikka Madan: Too Fat to Be Heroine After 15 Kg Gain
Radhikka Madan reveals she gained 15 kg for Pataakha, was told she was too fat to be a heroine, and why she now chases health over size.

Radhikka Madan has opened up about the impossible body standards she faced after gaining weight for Pataakha. The actor said she was told she was “too fat” to be a heroine, and that extreme weight loss later started to affect her health.
Madan gained 15 kg for the role and was still losing that weight while shooting Shiddat and Angrezi Medium. That was when the judgement began. As she put it, she was told she was “too fat. Heroine kaise banegi ye.”
What followed was more dangerous than the comment. She kept shedding weight through back-to-back shoots until, in her words, she became “like bones.” The transformation began to take a toll on her health, and she eventually took a break.
The goalposts kept moving
The real twist is that losing the weight did not end the criticism. Madan said she was too fat, then too thin, and then “neither here nor there.” That made her ask a bigger question: why try to please people who will never be happy?
“I started focusing on feeling healthy rather than chasing a particular body size,” she said. That switch, she added, changed how much other people’s opinions could hurt.
That pattern is not rare in show business. The same industry that rewards a transformation can punish the body that made it. For Madan, the message was always one step behind her: too big, then too small, never quite right.
Body standards begin early
Madan connected the pressure to a conditioning that starts in childhood, especially for girls. She pointed to the manicured, narrow idea of a perfect woman seen on magazine covers, and the burden of feeling you are going wrong if you do not fit it.
She also recalled being a “really hairy” schoolgirl with a unibrow. Positive parenting, she said, gave her the confidence to feel beautiful before the industry gave her reasons to doubt it.
What that looks like in practice:
- Make health the metric, not a fixed size or weight.
- Stop chasing standards that shift with every observer.
- Build self-worth early, with validation that does not depend on looks.
Why it matters to fans
For an audience that follows stars as closely as their films, the comments are sobering. The bodies celebrated on red carpets and magazine covers can be the product of extreme routines, not simply good genes. Madan’s framing — health as the goal — cuts through the noise.
Madan was last seen alongside Ali Fazal in Lust Stories 3, currently streaming on Netflix.
