Radhika Apte on Her Delusional, Lost Character in Akka

Radhika Apte opens up about playing a delusional, lost woman in the OTT series Akka, releasing on October 30, 2026.

Radhika Apte calls her Akka character delusional and lost

Radhika Apte is not playing a straight-line gangster queen in Akka. In an exclusive conversation with Filmfare, the actor described her character as a woman caught between two very different selves — and that tension, she says, is exactly what drew her to the part.

A character caught between confidence and longing

Apte called the role a “very delusional character” and said she found the woman “interesting in a sad way.” To play her convincingly, she explained, she had to look at the part with empathy rather than judgement.

“She is a bit lost,” Apte said. On the surface, the character reads as confident, ambitious and powerful. Underneath, she is a “lost and broken little girl who wants a family.”

That contrast creates room for nuance — different shades, as Apte put it, that let the performance dig deeper than a simple crime-drama archetype. For Apte, the draw was not just the gangster setting; she said she looks for characters with contradictions, because that is where a performance can go deeper.

Why her ‘women vs women’ answer matters

Asked whether women are their own worst enemies, Apte refused the premise. She answered in Hindi, then broke down the idea: enmity has nothing to do with gender, she argued. It comes down to the quality of an individual human being.

Her point was clear — the saying is often used against women to undermine them, but the truth is that people are the same everywhere, whatever their nationality or religion. In a series built around a sisterhood of female gangsters, that belief colours how the characters are read: not as women pitted against women, but as people fighting for power.

Akka: what we know so far

The series is set in the fictional city of Pernuru, under the rule of female gangsters. Their powerful sisterhood faces an unprecedented terror, which disrupts the reign and sets off a claim to power.

  • Akka releases on OTT on October 30, 2026.
  • The cast is women-led, with Radhika Apte and Keerthy Suresh headlining.
  • The story unfolds in Pernuru, a fictional city ruled by female gangsters.
  • A sudden threat disrupts the sisterhood and sparks a battle for power.

For viewers, Apte’s description signals that Akka is not just a power fantasy. It is built on emotional contradiction, and that is likely what will make the saga feel more human when it arrives. The full interview is available on Filmfare’s YouTube channel.
