Neil Bhoopalam Names Rajkumar Hirani as His Dream Director
Neil Bhoopalam, currently seen in The Revolutionaries, says most of his work has been A-certificate and a UA or U Hirani-style project would be a welcome change.

Neil Bhoopalam is earning fresh attention for his turn as Lala Hardayal in The Revolutionaries, but the actor is already looking at the filmmaker he still wants to collaborate with. In a new conversation, he named Rajkumar Hirani as the one director he hopes to work with in his lifetime, and he explained exactly why.
The director at the top of his list
Bhoopalam’s screen journey has moved between films, television and web shows, often in parts aimed at a more mature audience. Asked about the directors he would like to team up with, he said he would happily reunite with everyone he has already worked with.
His logic is practical and warm. “The second time around is always better,” he said, pointing out that an actor and a director who know each other can find a simpler, more effective rhythm on a second project.
But when pressed to name one filmmaker he truly wishes to work with, Bhoopalam did not hesitate.
“The one director that I wish to work with in my lifetime is Mr Rajkumar Hirani,” he shared.
What Hirani represents to him
Bhoopalam said he has watched Hirani’s films closely and values how they function as family entertainers. The appeal, he explained, is not just the laughter; it is how the humour becomes part of the storytelling and leaves audiences with something to take home.
The actor admitted that this would mark a clear change in his own filmography. Here is how he framed it:
- He would happily reunite with every director he has already worked with, because a second outing brings better understanding.
- Hirani is the one filmmaker he wants to work with at least once in his career.
- He sees Hirani’s films as family entertainers where humour is woven into the narrative.
- Much of his own work has been A-certificate content, so a UA or U-certificate project would be “a good shift” for him.
Why the certificate matters
India’s rating labels tell the story quickly: U means unrestricted viewing, UA means parental guidance for younger viewers, and A means adults only. For an actor whose career has leaned heavily toward A-certificate work, moving to a UA or U film is not just a change of genre. It opens the door to the family audience that Hirani consistently reaches.
For fans, the takeaway is simple: Bhoopalam wants a wider, more inclusive stage, and he sees Hirani as the director who can help him find it. Nothing has been signed yet, but the wish is now on record.
