Navratri Day 2: White Becomes Bollywood’s Couture Power Move
White shed its ascetic image this Navratri: Bollywood is leaning into sculpted bodices, pearl capes and sheer organza for Day Two.

Navratri’s second day is usually seen through red and gold, but this season Bollywood’s style set is treating white as the room’s most deliberate choice. On red carpets and festive floors, the colour is being rebuilt through sculpture, texture and jewellery rather than ascetic restraint.
Evening: sculpted bodices and pearl armour
Kriti Sanon frames a clean satin drape with a pearl-caged capelet, its seed pearls falling in concentric tiers at the neck before opening into fringe over the shoulders. Ananya Panday softens the formula with an off-shoulder corset embroidered with tonal garden motifs and a sheer illusion collar.
When the neckline is the ornament, stylists keep the throat bare. Solitaire studs work, while an oversized emerald ring or a gold cocktail cuff shifts the weight to the hands. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan takes the old-world route, grounding a heavy ivory drape with a floor-length bullion-edged cape and a cascade of tourmaline and cabochon rubies.
Daylight: sheer weaves and marigold
Daytime rituals call for air. Alia Bhatt’s sunlit organza drape keeps a chalk-white base and adds marigold bootis with zigzag cutwork borders, an unstudied balance for poojas and afternoon gatherings. Her spaghetti-strap kurta layered over a tulle sharara offers a lighter, nineties-influenced column.
For these looks, silver-gilt filigree and oxidised jhumkas make more sense than heavy diamond sets. A micro-bindi, soft kohl, and a glazed caramel lip keep the beauty quiet.
After dark: tailoring and ease
When celebrations stretch late, tailoring becomes the alternative to the nine-yard drape. Deepika Padukone pairs a peplum tunic with a geometric lace sharara, while Kiara Advani chooses an ivory bustier, palazzo trousers and a sweeping floral duster coat.
- Use one sharp colour puncture, such as carved jade or an emerald collar choker against tone-on-tone embroidery.
- Swap drawstring bags for an architectural clutch: mother-of-pearl, hammered gold or crystal-dusted.
- Keep hems precise with pointed satin pumps or metallic ankle-strap stilettos.
With that level of deliberate contrast, white stops reading as empty and becomes the most commanding choice in the room.
