Mohra Re-Release to Tour Single Screens for Six Months: Rajiv Rai

Rajiv Rai confirms Mohra's Diwali return is a limited single-screen tour over six months, with no multiplex run and no clash with Ramayana.

Mohra’s six-month single-screen re-release, with no Ramayana clash

For fans hoping to catch the much-loved 1994 favourite Mohra on the big screen this Diwali, the plan is real, but smaller than a wide release, and definitely not a fight with Ramayana.

A deliberately small, touring release

Director Rajiv Rai has clarified that the Akshay Kumar-Suniel Shetty-Raveena Tandon starrer is returning in a “very, very limited and small way” on single screens around the country. The film will keep taking rounds of different centres over roughly six months.

His film Zora, which returned on October 23, is already following the same route, and other old titles from his catalogue may join later.

  • Release format: single screens only, no PVR or multiplex chains
  • Window: around six months, moving from centre to centre
  • Zora has already been re-released from October 23

Why multiplexes are out

Rai explained that older films have been watched repeatedly, so “business is negligible” in the multiplex model, where ticket prices are steep and the Virtual Print Fee charged by cinemas is high. He framed the effort as an exercise rather than a commercial play.

Repeat runs can occasionally perform well, he added, but that is rare. The workable path is to keep moving the film around India so collections add up to a respectable total over time.

No clash with Ramayana

On the Diwali framing, Rai was direct: “I’m not coming against Ramayana.” Because big-ticket films have moved away from Diwali, there is an opening in small centres, and he is using that gap. He also noted that Ramayana cannot book every cinema in the country, and Mumbai may not have a screen for Mohra at all, so there is no practical clash.

What fans should do

The re-release is built for a section of the audience that still wants to revisit old films on the big screen. If you want to catch it, keep an eye on local single-screen listings and be patient; the run may take time to reach your city.
