Jailer 2 set for Rs 100 crore opening as advance nears Rs 70 cr
Jailer 2 is tracking for a Rs 100 crore-plus opening day as worldwide advance sales near Rs 70 crore, powered by Kerala, Karnataka and the Middle East.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 opens tomorrow and the sequel is already trading like a box-office event. Trade tracking collated by Pinkvilla puts India’s first-day advance at roughly Rs 32 crore at the time of writing, with the number expected to clear Rs 35 crore by the end of the day. The four-day extended weekend is closing in on Rs 50 crore, and overseas pre-sales have added more than USD 3 million.
Combined, that takes the worldwide first-day advance past Rs 60 crore, with the final number likely to land around Rs 70 crore once last-minute bookings settle. Pinkvilla’s estimates indicate the opening day can cross the Rs 100 crore mark, a milestone that would put Jailer 2 among the biggest starts for a Tamil film.
Where the demand is coming from
Early momentum is broad but not uniform. Kerala and Karnataka have shown the strongest pre-sales, which mirrors how the first Jailer performed: Pinkvilla notes it was the biggest Tamil film in both states at the time of release. The Middle East is another bright spot, helped by the Malayali diaspora. Tamil Nadu, the home market, has recorded solid advances, though trade observers feel the sequel factor could have produced an even bigger number.
The 2023 original gives those numbers context. Jailer grossed over Rs 600 crore worldwide and restored Rajinikanth’s event-film aura after a mixed run. A century on day one would signal that Jailer 2 is not merely coasting on nostalgia but carrying real early demand into its opening weekend.
What the first day will answer
The pre-sales set the floor; only audience reaction sets the ceiling. Pinkvilla says internal reports are positive, but the real verdict starts tomorrow morning. The areas to watch:
- Can Tamil Nadu accelerate once reviews and word-of-mouth land?
- Will Kerala and Karnataka convert their early lead into a bigger weekend share?
- Does Jailer 2 match or exceed the original’s Rs 600 crore-plus global total?
For fans and the trade, the opening is the first clear test. A strong first day would put the sequel on track to chase its predecessor’s lifetime haul; a softer turnout would leave it dependent on weekend holds and overseas performance.
As with all advance estimates, these are trade projections based on booking trends and market sentiment rather than final collections. The gap between booked and actual occupancy can still shift the number by morning.
