Hanuman Ansh: Rs 2.95 crore spend, Rs 322 crore box office

Producer Namrata Singh puts Hanuman Ansh's real budget on record: Rs 1.7 crore production, Rs 2.95 crore total spend, and Rs 1.25 crore from Haldiram's.

Hanuman Ansh: Rs 2.95 crore budget, Rs 322 crore collection

Ten weeks after Hanuman Ansh opened with just Rs 10 lakh, producer Namrata Singh has put the film’s exact numbers on record. The devotional saga has collected nearly Rs 322 crore and is still counting, but the newer revelation is how little it took to get there.

The real budget

Speaking to The Economic Times, Singh said: “The film was made at a total cost of Rs 1.7 crore.” With prints and advertising added, the overall spend came to around Rs 2.95 crore, or close to Rs 3 crore. That makes the commonly quoted Rs 2 crore budget only part of the picture.

The headline detail is Haldiram’s role. The snacks and sweets giant put Rs 1.25 crore into P&A as part of a co-production arrangement, funds that went largely toward marketing and the release.

Where the money went

  • Production cost: Rs 1.7 crore
  • Haldiram’s P&A contribution: Rs 1.25 crore
  • Marketing from that P&A pool: Rs 65-70 lakh
  • Holding theatres for three weeks: over Rs 40 lakh extra
  • Total production and P&A: approximately Rs 2.95 crore

Singh explained that the remaining P&A budget after marketing went into the release itself. Keeping the film on screens for three weeks needed more than Rs 40 lakh in additional spending, which signals how seriously the team took the theatrical window.

A small group of believers

The money did not come from a major studio. Singh said producer Ragini Sona, a long-time friend of director Vishal Chaturvedi, offered Rs 50 lakh on the condition that someone else would match it. When no one came forward, Singh invested Rs 50 lakh from her mutual fund savings. Anupriya A Nagar then financed the post-production stage.

The partners signed a shareholders’ agreement that gave each of the four producers a 25% share in the IP, along with a three-year lock-in period and other terms.

Why this changes the conversation

Hanuman Ansh has collected nearly Rs 322 crore and is still drawing audiences in its tenth week. Against a total spend of about Rs 2.95 crore, that is a return of more than 100 times the outlay.

For the trade, the reveal is a case study in disciplined budgeting: a lean production, a brand-backed P&A cushion, and a clear agreement among partners. For fans, it confirms that a Rs 10 lakh opening day did not stop the film from becoming one of the year’s most talked-about sleeper hits.

What will be watched next is whether other devotional or small-scale films try the same co-production route, and whether Haldiram’s returns for another round.
