DSP’s RC17 Role Still Open After Mythri’s Noncommittal Reply

Mythri Movie Makers responds to RC17's composer rumours, but the producer neither confirms DSP's exit nor rules out Anirudh. Sukumar decides soon.

DSP's RC17 Role Still Open After Producer's Careful Reply

Mythri Movie Makers has finally addressed the speculation around Devi Sri Prasad’s role in Ram Charan’s RC17, and the response is unlikely to end the fan chatter. Producer Y Ravi Shankar spoke about the composer question in a way that neither confirms DSP’s exit nor promises that he will stay.

The producer’s careful answer

Ravi Shankar’s line was diplomatic. He suggested that even if DSP does not work on the film, it would reflect nothing on the composer’s ability, reputation or untapped range. It is a respectful note, but it leaves the actual question exactly where it was.

That matters because the response avoided two clear answers. The producer did not confirm that DSP is out of RC17, and he did not deny that Anirudh Ravichander could step in. For fans tracking every update on the project, the silence around Anirudh is its own signal.

  • DSP has not been confirmed for RC17.
  • His exit has not been confirmed either.
  • Anirudh’s name has not been ruled out.
  • The final call sits with director Sukumar Bandreddi.

Sukumar will make the call

The wait should not stretch for too long. According to the report, Sukumar will decide in a few days after he returns from a foreign trip. Until then, the producer’s non-answer has turned a standard crew update into a talking point.

That is not unusual for this team. When a Sukumar film is in the works, music becomes a headline because the albums tend to set the tone for the entire release.

A strong partnership with visible cracks

There is a strong case for continuity. Mythri Movie Makers, Sukumar and Devi Sri Prasad have delivered chartbuster albums both separately and together, and the popularity of the Pushpa music is proof of how well that combination can land. Songs from their earlier collaborations still travel far beyond the films themselves.

But the partnership has not always been friction-free. During Pushpa 2, reports suggested DSP had been sidelined from the background score. At a promotional event in Chennai, DSP addressed the moment in a pointed, joking way, telling Ravi Shankar that the team seemed to have more complaints about him than love. The clip went viral quickly.

The producer later dismissed talk of a feud. He compared the unit to a close-knit family, called DSP’s remarks harmless, and blamed the media for exaggerating minor creative differences into a bigger story.

What to watch next

RC17 is expected to go on floors by the end of this year, with Ram Charan expected to be physically ready for the schedule. That leaves a narrow window to lock the music team and move from speculation to production.

For the audience, the real question is whether RC17 brings back the familiar DSP-Sukumar sound or chooses a fresh direction. Either answer will shape the first teaser, the first song and the early narrative around the film.
