Drishyam is India’s 5th-biggest franchise at Rs 648.65 crore

Three Drishyam films have out-earned five Housefull movies, lifting Ajay Devgn's thriller saga to fifth place with Rs 648.65 crore.

Drishyam passes Housefull to become India's 5th biggest franchise

Three films have just out-earned five. Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam series has moved past the Housefull franchise on Bollywood Hungama’s domestic lifetime chart, becoming the fifth highest-grossing franchise in Indian cinema with Rs 648.65 crore.

The numbers that made the gap

The jump is powered by Drishyam The Conclusion. The latest film has contributed Rs 340.98 crore, more than the first two instalments combined. The original Drishyam (2015) earned Rs 67.13 crore, and Drishyam 2 (2022) earned Rs 240.54 crore.

Housefull, the franchise Drishyam just overtook, has five films and a combined total of Rs 646.08 crore. That leaves it only Rs 2.57 crore behind the thriller series, even with two extra instalments in its catalogue.

  • Drishyam (2015): Rs 67.13 crore
  • Drishyam 2 (2022): Rs 240.54 crore
  • Drishyam The Conclusion: Rs 340.98 crore
  • Total: Rs 648.65 crore

Why a three-film thriller is the real story

Franchise records usually belong to larger, broader comedies or action universes. Drishyam has reached the top five with just three suspense-thriller films, while Housefull needed five. The series has stayed lean and returned with the same star, and each new Drishyam has out-earned its predecessor — a rare upward curve for a dialogue-led thriller.

The momentum behind the milestone

What makes the record stand out is the trajectory. Drishyam went from a 2015 release that earned Rs 67.13 crore to a sequel that more than tripled that number with Rs 240.54 crore. Now Drishyam The Conclusion has pushed the total to Rs 648.65 crore and nudged the franchise ahead of an established comedy series by Rs 2.57 crore.

That consistency matters for fans and for how studios plan sequels. A returning star and a strong mystery can build a franchise without requiring a new ensemble or a bigger canvas each time.

The view from the franchise chart

On Bollywood Hungama’s all-time franchise ladder, Dhurandhar leads with Rs 2,004.05 crore, followed by Pushpa (Rs 938.36 crore), Tiger/Ek Tha Tiger (Rs 823.46 crore) and Stree (Rs 756.92 crore). Drishyam now sits fifth, ahead of Housefull and Baahubali (Rs 635.82 crore).

The next benchmark above Drishyam is Stree, which is Rs 108.27 crore away. If Drishyam The Conclusion keeps pulling audiences, that gap could narrow; otherwise, Stree’s number becomes the target for the next chapter.
