Rajinikanth's Dharman Eyes Final Shoot In November 2026

Rajinikanth’s upcoming action entertainer Dharman may be closer to the finish line than expected. A new report cited by Pinkvilla suggests the team is planning its final shooting schedule in November 2026, with a Pongal 2027 theatrical release being eyed.

Production on the film began earlier this year and has reportedly progressed at a brisk pace. If the November leg goes as planned, the makers could wrap production and move toward a festive opening. For a film at this stage, a November wind-down would mean principal photography is largely complete and the project can shift into post-production for a big launch.

What the report says

According to a Valai Pechu report, the Dharman team will take a break in October 2026 and resume work in November for the final schedule. The release plan, however, is not yet official.

Until the makers confirm, the timeline should be seen as an indicator rather than a locked date. This is a standard caveat for a film at this stage: production updates often circulate before the studio makes an announcement.

Who is on board

The film was previously known under the tentative title Thalaivar173. Rajinikanth is expected to play a stylish doctor in the action entertainer, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu.

The cast includes Simran Bagga, Yogi Babu, and Raashii Khanna in key roles. Reports have also suggested Ram Pothineni could play the main antagonist, though the makers have not confirmed his involvement.

  • Music: Anirudh Ravichander
  • Cinematography: Niketh Bommireddy
  • Editing: Pradeep E. Ragav
  • Action: Anbariv duo

Anirudh’s involvement gives the film a built-in musical pull, while the Anbariv brothers signal the kind of high-energy action sequences Rajinikanth fans expect from a commercial Tamil film.

Why this matters for fans

Pongal is one of Tamil cinema’s most important release windows, and a Rajinikanth title in that slot would be a major event. If Dharman does lock the date, it will give audiences a big festive draw after the actor’s immediate next release. A confirmed Pongal slot would also make the film a centrepiece of the Tamil release calendar, but the studio has not commented, so the window remains a target.

That release, Jailer 2, arrives on October 15, 2026. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel continues Tiger Muthuvel Pandian’s story and stars SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, and others. It is also expected to feature Mohanlal, Hrithik Roshan, Shiva Rajkumar, and Vijay Sethupathi in cameo appearances.

For now, Jailer 2 is the confirmed date on Rajinikanth’s calendar. Dharman is still in the reporting stage, but the final-schedule chatter suggests the finish line is near.
