Baththa Streams on Netflix in Five Languages from Oct 29

Vijay Sethupathi's Baththa streams on Netflix from October 29 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam after its October 1 theatrical release.

Baththa Streams on Netflix in Five Languages from Oct 29

Vijay Sethupathi’s comedy-drama Baththa has a digital date. After a theatrical run that began on October 1, 2026, the film moves to Netflix on October 29, 2026, giving fans a chance to catch it at home almost immediately.

Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, the film arrives with a simple promise from the team: “You’re not ready for Baththa’s rampage.” Netflix will stream it in multiple Indian languages, which makes this a wide release rather than a Tamil-only affair.

Baththa’s Netflix date and language lineup

The film will be available on Netflix from October 29, 2026. That is just under a month after it opened in cinemas. The confirmed language options include the original Tamil version and dubbed versions.

  • Platform: Netflix
  • Streaming from: October 29, 2026
  • Theatrical release: October 1, 2026
  • Languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam

This quick window between a theatrical run and a streaming premiere is part of a larger pattern: mid-budget Indian films are increasingly treating OTT as a second, less risky audience rather than a last resort. For fans, that means a shorter wait and more language choices.

A feared don, a locked bathroom and rusks

Baththa is set in Madras in the late 1980s. It follows Baththavachalam, a local figure who is used to commanding respect through intimidation, and Sabhari, a young boy from the same neighbourhood who is terrified of him.

When a teacher confiscates Sabhari’s toy just before summer vacation, the boy sneaks into school early one morning to retrieve it. After using the toilet, he accidentally locks the bathroom door from outside, only to realise that Baththa is trapped inside. Sabhari runs away, but later returns with rusks and slips them through the narrow gap under the door.

Days pass. Baththa eventually pleads to be released and promises not to harm his captor. When Sabhari finally opens the door, he finds Baththa unconscious and calls for help. From there, the movie takes a gentler turn: Baththa grows fond of Sabhari, apologises to his wife Kannima, and starts treating her with the respect she never received.

The emotional payoff comes when Baththa reveals that his harsh behaviour stems from years of being ridiculed because he could not sing. With Sabhari’s encouragement, he performs at his daughter Thenu’s puberty ceremony and finally feels accepted.

The team behind Baththa

Vijay Sethupathi leads the cast, with Master Sai Prithviraj playing the young Sabhari. The supporting ensemble includes Lijomol Jose, Baby Sahasra Shree, Santhy Balachandran, Hari Krishnan, Vishnu Govindan, Arjun Chidambaram and Ajay Ghosh.

Balaji Tharaneetharan has written and directed the film. It is co-produced by Atlee, the filmmaker known for Jawan. The music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar, with cinematography by Selvakumar SK and editing by R. Kalaivanan.

Why it’s worth a spot on your weekend list

The film has a quirky premise, but its shift from confinement comedy to emotional reconciliation is the kind of arc that tends to travel well across languages. With a star like Vijay Sethupathi and a recognisable producer in Atlee, Baththa arrives on Netflix with enough pull to attract both Tamil film loyalists and viewers who just want a warm comedy-drama.

If you are planning to watch, choose your preferred language in advance and keep an eye out for the film on October 29. The team’s announcement is confident, and the plot gives it a specific hook that should be easy to remember.
