Anil Kapoor says only Satish could have been his twin

Anil Kapoor's emotional recollection of Satish Kaushik on India Ke Top 1 makes a contestant's resemblance the heart of a moving TV moment.

Anil Kapoor says only Satish could have been his twin

Some television moments feel less like content and more like a phone call home. That is the mood of the upcoming India Ke Top 1% – The Anil Kapoor Show episode, where a contestant’s familiar face nudged host Anil Kapoor into a full-hearted tribute to his late friend, actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik.

The face that started it

Contestant Gagan has often been told he resembles Satish Kaushik. He shared that he had even met the late actor while shooting the TV series Sumit Sambhal Lega in Delhi. For Anil, that resemblance opened a door to decades of memory — and he walked through it without hesitation.

“My bond with him, I cannot explain,” Anil said, adding that even a 70-minute shoot would not be enough to tell Satish’s stories.

Only Satish could be the twin

The friendship had a running joke that was also a love letter. Anil used to call Satish ‘Danny DeVito’, and both men loved the 1988 comedy Twins, often imagining themselves as twin brothers in a film of their own.

That idea became the emotional centre of the episode. As Anil put it, “Agar mera koi judwa bhai ban sakta hai, toh woh sirf Satish tha” — if he could have had a twin brother, it could only have been Satish, because Satish knew everything about him: his anger, his happiness, everything. “He knew me so well,” Anil added.

A comic legacy, kept warm

The tribute found its punchline when Anil and Gagan recreated one of Satish’s most-loved lines on stage: “Mera naam hai Calendar, main chala kitchen ke andar.” Anil’s response was immediate: “Aapne mera dil jeet liya hai.”

He then turned the moment outward with a joke — if anyone had the money to make a Twins-inspired film, they should cast him and Gagan as the twin brothers.

Here is why the exchange sticks:

  • It shows Anil Kapoor’s friendship with Satish Kaushik as personal, not just professional.
  • The imagined Twins casting carries decades of shared history in one small joke.
  • The Calendar recreation keeps Satish’s comic timing alive for a new generation.

The bigger picture

Satish Kaushik worked across Hindi cinema as an actor, director and screenwriter, and his long association with Anil Kapoor made the two familiar figures together. Moments like this matter because they restore the human side of an industry that usually speaks in releases and box office. Here, the news is simply a friend remembering another friend on television.

India Ke Top 1% – The Anil Kapoor Show airs on Star Plus every Saturday and Sunday at 8 PM, and streams on JioHotstar.
