8 South films open October 30—which one fits your mood?

South Indian cinema is giving theatre-goers a wide slate this Thursday, October 30, 2026. Eight films are set to release across Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada, ranging from a Venkatesh Daggubati family comedy to Vishwak Sen’s self-directed slasher thriller.

Telugu titles dominate the board

Four of the eight releases are Telugu. Aadarsha Kutumbam House No 47, billed as AK 47, brings together Venkatesh Daggubati and Srinidhi Shetty for director Trivikram Srinivas. The action comedy drama revolves around Chittibabu, his wife Swarna and their children in House No. 47, where an accident and long-held secrets crack their composed family image. Nara Rohith, Nivetha Pethuraj, Vennela Kishore and Rao Ramesh round out the cast.

Vishwak Sen stars in and directs #Cult, an action slasher thriller with Gayatri Bharadwaj, Tarak Ponnappa and Murali Sharma. A group of youngsters heads to Goa for an underground party, but the night turns into a survival game after a Game Master traps them in an isolated estate and sets brutal challenges.

For audiences who want a different Telugu flavour, Killer is a sci-fi action thriller about a rogue scientist, a young woman and an advanced female robot called Super She, while Chandrayan is an adventure comedy about three Telangana youngsters who build a homemade rocket programme called MSRO after feeling overshadowed by Allu Arjun and Virat Kohli.

A multilingual weekend

Malayalam’s Sidhu is a mystery thriller directed by Ajith Poojappura, centred on a school student whose family is caught in difficult circumstances. Tamil’s Singgaramm stars Yogi Babu and Vela Ramamoorthy in a drama about a nomadic tribe that hunts birds and sells handmade beads before moving to a village in search of a settled life.

Kannada counters with Mr Lucky, a fantasy thriller about an IT professional nicknamed ‘Lucky’ who has terrible luck until a mysterious cap gives him good fortune at a dangerous price. Thaytha is a horror thriller that begins with college students and takes a paranormal turn when a trip strands them in a haunted place.

How to choose

The lineup is a study in counterprogramming: each title is chasing a different segment of the same opening-day audience. That means your choice depends on mood more than language or star pull.

  • Star-led family comedy: AK 47.
  • High-tension thrills: #Cult, Killer, Sidhu and Thaytha.
  • Fantasies and laughs: Mr Lucky and Chandrayan.
  • Rooted drama: Singgaramm.

All eight films open on October 30, 2026. If you are planning a theatre visit, check the language and genre that suit your group before booking.
