SS Rajamouli Reviews Ramayana, Praises Ranbir Kapoor and Yash
SS Rajamouli has praised Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana for its scale, visuals and lead performances, singling out Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi.

When SS Rajamouli talks about epic storytelling, Bollywood listens. The filmmaker behind Baahubali and RRR has now shared his verdict on Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, an adaptation of Valmiki’s epic, and it is a glowing one.
Rajamouli, whose films have travelled well beyond Indian markets, was most struck by the adaptation’s cinema-scale ambition. In a review posted on social media on November 5, he called the film’s scale and big-screen visuals spectacular to watch.
“The sheer scale of the film and the visuals on the big screen are spectacular to watch,” he wrote.
Rajamouli on Ranbir, Yash and Sai Pallavi
Rajamouli saved particular praise for the lead cast. He described Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Ram as “serene yet magnificent,” especially from the Vanavasam portion onwards. Yash, he said, brings a “menacing presence as Ravana,” while Sai Pallavi is “graceful as Sita.”
He also name-checked the closing act, saying he loved every bit of the pre-climax and climax. He congratulated producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari and the entire team for bringing an ambitious vision to the screen.
Why his word carries weight
Rajamouli is not just another reviewer. Baahubali and RRR built the modern template for large-scale Indian mythological and period storytelling that travels globally. His endorsement is a strong word-of-mouth signal for audiences still deciding between home and theatre.
Ramayana is running in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. For the dubbed versions, the makers have used AI technology to address lip-sync issues — a technical adjustment that has reportedly been well received. For a pan-India release, smoother dubbing can lower the barrier for viewers who prefer their own language.
The team behind the epic
- The ensemble includes Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari.
- Lara Dutta plays Kaikeyi, Sheeba Chadha plays Manthara and Rakul Preet Singh plays Surpanakha.
- Shridhar Raghavan wrote the screenplay with Nitesh Tiwari; AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer composed the music together for the first time.
For anyone weighing a theatre visit, Rajamouli’s reaction is close to the strongest possible nudge from contemporary Indian cinema. The positive response to the AI-assisted lip-sync also removes one of the usual friction points for multilingual releases.
