Ramayana Advance Booking Ranks 12th All-Time at National Chains

The Ranbir Kapoor and Yash epic has crossed 3.25 lakh opening-day admissions in national chains, good for 12th on the all-time advance booking list.

Ramayana Ranks 12th in All-Time National Chain Advance Bookings

Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s Ramayana arrives in theatres with an advance booking haul that is respectable, but clearly a step down from the biggest event films in recent memory. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film recorded more than 3.25 lakh admissions across PVR Inox and Cinepolis for its opening day, according to trade tracking shared by Pinkvilla.

A strong start that falls short of the top tier

That number places the film at No. 12 on the all-time list of advance bookings at national chains for Bollywood movies, where Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Dhurandhar 2) holds the top spot. The rank is lower than the buzz around the film might suggest. In the list of post-2020 releases alone, Ramayana sits at No. 6, with titles such as Pathaan, Jawan and Animal ahead of it.

The pre-Diwali release window partly explains the gap. Trade watchers usually treat the days before Diwali as a lull period for box office collections. A big advance in this window is harder to generate, even when a film carries two major stars and a built-in audience.

Where Ramayana ranks

  • All-time rank at national chains: 12th
  • Opening-day admissions at PVR Inox and Cinepolis: 3.25 lakh-plus
  • Post-2020 rank: 6th
  • Post-2020 films ahead of it: Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Pathaan, Jawan, Stree 2, Animal, Drishyam: The Conclusion

It also finishes behind older titles including Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Dhoom 3, which shows how tough the all-time top ten remains even for a big-ticket release.

Why this matters for the opening

Advance bookings are only one part of a first-day number, but they are a useful early signal. National chains such as PVR Inox and Cinepolis account for a large share of multiplex admissions, and their presales set the tone for a film’s momentum. The next question is whether spot bookings and walk-in audiences can lift Ramayana beyond this start.

The next marker is King

For now, the trade’s attention is shifting to Shah Rukh Khan’s King. The question being asked is whether it can enter this all-time list when it releases. If it does, it will join a very short group of films that have turned massive star power into record-level advance demand.
