Saif Ali Khan Recalls Kareena’s Nail-Digging First Bike Ride

A throwback from Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 revisits the Tashan shoot in Ladakh, where Saif Ali Khan realised Kareena liked him—not his motorcycle.

Saif Ali Khan on the Ladakh bike ride that sparked a romance

Saif Ali Khan is taking fans back to a Ladakh road—and to the moment he and Kareena Kapoor Khan stopped pretending the only thing between them was a motorcycle. During a recent appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati 18, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, Saif told the story of their first bike ride together while shooting Tashan in 2007–08.

The ride that started with a yes

Saif said someone from the Tashan team told him Kareena was fond of motorcycles, so he asked her directly. Her answer was immediate and enthusiastic: she loved bikes. It was only once they were on the bike that the picture changed.

“She dug her nails into me every two seconds,” Saif recalled on the show, adding that Kareena kept saying, “Stop, stop…not so fast.” By the time they got off, she had a different review: she hated bike rides.

Why Saif’s takeaway matters

Saif’s memory is sweet because of how he interpreted it. He told Kareena, “Then why are we on this bike?” and quickly realised that the ride was not really about the bike. As he put it, the moment made him feel they liked each other—she just didn’t like the motorcycle.

That detail is exactly the kind of throwback fans love: it takes a familiar celebrity love story and grounds it in a small, awkward, very human moment.

From Tashan to a family of four

The relationship reportedly deepened while Saif and Kareena were working on Tashan, which released in 2008. The timeline is short but significant:

  • 2007–08: Saif and Kareena shoot Tashan in Ladakh; the bike ride takes place.
  • 2008: Tashan hits theatres.
  • October 16, 2012: Saif and Kareena marry.
  • Now: The couple are parents to Taimur and Jehangir Ali Khan.

For readers, the charm of the story isn’t the motorcycle—it’s the reminder that some of Bollywood’s most enduring partnerships began with a single, slightly chaotic outing and a lot of laughter afterwards.
