Jailer 2 holds on 3rd Monday; India gross at Rs 511.75 crore

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 added Rs 3.75 crore on its third Monday, lifting India gross to Rs 511.75 crore and staying ahead of 2.0 as Kollywood's biggest hit.

Jailer 2 holds, India gross at Rs 511.75 crore

Jailer 2 isn’t just surviving its third week — it is adding to a record with every hold. On its third Monday, the Rajinikanth starrer collected Rs 3.75 crore in India, a 35 per cent drop from the third Friday. The first four days of week three have brought in Rs 32 crore, pushing the film’s all-India gross to Rs 511.75 crore.

Week three is still paying

A 35 per cent Monday dip is routine for a film this deep into its run. The stronger signal is the week-three cume: Rs 32 crore across four days is a healthy hold for a big South Indian action sequel, and it keeps the film’s lifetime milestones moving before the Diwali titles arrive.

Backed by Sun Pictures and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 has already gone past the lifetime India gross of 2.0 to become the highest-grossing Kollywood film in India. The trade expects the closing number to land around Rs 525 crore, depending on how it holds after Ramayana and Scene open this Diwali.

The regional split shows the scale

  • Tamil Nadu: on the verge of entering the Rs 200 crore club
  • Karnataka: around Rs 91 crore
  • Telugu markets: around Rs 89.25 crore
  • Kerala: around Rs 77.50 crore
  • Hindi: what the trade calls a Clean Hit, without a national chain release

The Hindi result is the detail that stands out. A Tamil film becoming a Clean Hit without national multiplex chains suggests the audience turned up on the film’s own strength rather than on the back of wide chain placement. In trade terms, a Clean Hit means the film has recovered its investment and earned a healthy profit without needing that network to do it.

Why this matters for Kollywood

Every big Tamil release that overturns a previous India record — here, 2.0’s lifetime — raises the ceiling for the entire industry. The territorial numbers show the demand is broad: Karnataka, Telugu markets and Kerala are all contributing strongly, while Hindi is performing without the usual chain support. That makes the record more impressive than a single-language spike.

For fans, the milestone also settles a talking point: Jailer 2 has not just opened big, it has stayed big. Third-week holds matter because they separate front-loaded event films from rewatchable crowd-pleasers, and this one is currently showing the latter behaviour.

What comes next

In the film, Muthuvel Pandian is back three months after the first Jailer, living quietly with his family while secretly working his way into an idol-trade network run by the Kalpak family. When his cover is blown, he has to protect the people he loves from the Kalpaks. The cast includes S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan and Yogi Babu.

The next commercial test is the Diwali window. Ramayana and Scene will split screens and attention. If Jailer 2 can keep enough shows through that period, the Rs 525 crore closing estimate looks within reach; if not, it will still bow out as the biggest Kollywood film in India on current trade numbers.
