Ed Sheeran’s Bollywood detour has turned into a very public win. His first Hindi film song, “Tu Mil Jaaye” from Shah Rukh Khan’s King, has crossed 36 million YouTube views in 24 hours, and Sheeran says the idea started with Shah Rukh Khan himself.

SRK set the brief early

Sheeran recalled on Instagram that when he first met the superstar, Khan told him he had to make a song for his next film. “I had to,” Sheeran said, summing up how the moment felt. The song is Sheeran’s first Hindi track and his debut as a singer in a Bollywood movie.

The friendship did not stop there. During a recent visit to India, Sheeran met Khan at the actor’s home while he was shooting the music video for “Sapphire”, which features both Shah Rukh Khan and Arijit Singh.

A dream project with Arijit Singh

“Tu Mil Jaaye” brings Sheeran, Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi together on vocals, with Sachin-Jigar composing. Sheeran called the collaboration a dream project because it united artists he admires and enjoys working with.

It also deepens his working relationship with Khan: the actor’s appearance in “Sapphire” came first, and now Sheeran returns the favour by lending his voice to King.

Why the song matters for King

  • Song: “Tu Mil Jaaye” is Ed Sheeran’s first Hindi film song.
  • Film: King releases in theatres on December 24, 2026, directed by Siddharth Anand and starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.
  • Early signal: 36 million YouTube views in 24 hours gives the film a high-visibility music launch.

Sheeran has performed for Indian audiences for years, but this marks his formal entry into Hindi film music. With King’s release still some weeks away, the song is already doing the job of pulling attention toward the film’s world.
